Electronics Projects

Matrianna took electronics classes at NYU, such as Analog Electronics, Digital Electronics, and Electronic Product Design. In these courses, she learned how to solder, how to work with microcontrollers, how to code in C++, and much more.

touch//hear: NYU Music Technology Capstone

This is a multichannel synth. There are touch sensors on the synth, and depending which one is touched, sound will come out of a corresponding speaker. It uses a quad system, so there are four touch sensors and four speakers. The synth is monophonic, so only one touch sensor/sound can be touched/heard at a time. There are four potentiometers to control the pitch of each sound, one volume potentiometer, and an octave up/down switch.

Synth Sequencer 2.0: NYU Electronic Product Design Final Project

This can be played as a normal keyboard or as a sequencer. There are 12 steps in the sequence that can step backwards or forwards. It can be played on its own or as a MIDI instrument within a DAW. There is also an option to modulate the frequency with a distance sensor and to alter the tempo of the sequencer.

Synth Sequencer: NYU Digital Electronics Final Project

This can switch between a sequencer and a keyboard. It can be polyphonic or can be switched to monophonic. The sequence can switch to play the pattern of the notes backwards, or the pattern of notes can play faster or slower. In keyboard mode, it works as a regular keyboard/piano. The pitch of each note in the sequencer can be controlled by turning certain knobs, and the entire key of the notes can be changed by moving the frequency modulation joystick.

Phaser Pedal: NYU Analog Electronics Final Project

A phaser pedal takes an input signal and duplicates that signal. The original dry signal is sent directly to the output. The duplicated signal goes through a series of all pass filters in which it will undergo the phase shifting. Both the dry signal and the phase signal are added together and are heard through the output. The phase effect can be bypassed with a switch.

Moon Recording

Matrianna was an intern at Moon Recording Studios in Brooklyn, NY. While working there, she was able to work on a project of her own. Using Pro Tools and the resources at the studio, she recorded and mixed two tracks* for the band Frog Throat.

Recorded and mixed by Matrianna Gahol. Mastered by Josh Liebman.

WNU - 89.1 FM

Matrianna was a Sound Engineer for NYU’s radio station, WNYU. Using Logic Pro X, she recorded live sets* at the station’s studio.
